Holler teamed up with Venmo to be their official sticker provider. We were tasked to create a custom library that covers all payment topics from food to activities, and continue to create additional monthly content in response to user data.
Holler hosted a Fast Company FCFestival event and I hosted! We talked about character design and what it takes to make successful content that aids all forms of digital communication, and then held a Drink&Draw session to test everyone’s newfound knowledge. The brief title was: Dogs With Jobs. Our studio then spent a week animating all audience sketches into actual LIVE stickers for use on the holler.io platform, available on iMessage, Android, and select messaging apps.

Challenge: Muze Chat is a mobile messaging app built as a fully free-form canvas. When signing up, a user is taken through 8 pages, from asking for user details to choosing a profile photo. Each step needed an animated icon to represent each UX action, executed in Lottie, a JSON-based animation file format.
Execution: Muze crowdsourced ideas from their community of users via Twitter and Discord submissions. With the help of Muze CEO, I chose the 8 that I could best work with to represent each action in the most playful, on brand way, in under 3 seconds each.
Lottie doesn’t support most AE expressions that are popular among animators, and treats other things kinda funny. Consequently, you have to animate all things manually, pushing and pulling lines, shapes, and keyframes, while trying to keep the final keyframe count low to safeguard file size, with constant checking the work to see if it looks correct once exported as code. Challenging, but gratifying when looking at the final product — like a puzzle.

Oreo’s “Stay Playful” campaign is all about using the power of a playful spirit to bring people together in a world where the seriousness of adulthood is sucking the fun out of everything. Utilizing Holler’s ability to serve up contextual, branded content within 1-to-1 text conversations, we were able to leverage the power of community within conversations to drive participation and context for brand love.
